Abstract: As an important module of navigation and communication systems, the system properties depend mainly on an airborne high frequency (HF) antenna. In this presentation, two kinds of HF antennas which can be used on large-size aircrafts are discussed. One kind of antennas are designed for large transport airplanes with entire bodies covered by a metallic skin, while another kind is for those whose vertical stabilizers are covered by a non-metallic skin. Both kinds of antennas are located on the front edge of a vertical stabilizer and are well conformal with the configuration of an aircraft without degrading the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft. Based on the simulated design utilizing two commercial electromagnetic software packages, CST Microwave Studio and Ansoft HFSS, the impedances and radiation patterns of the antennas are presented, and the impedance matching and efficiencies of the antennas are discussed. The antennas can be tuned satisfactorily with transceivers such as the KHF950 through the whole HF band. The scaling prototypes of the antennas have been fabricated. The measurement has been made and the simulation results have been authenticated, indicating that both kinds of antennas can operate well for remote airborne communications.

Biography:

Naizhi Wang was born on May 15, 1986, in Shandong Province of China. He received his bachelor degree in communication engineering from the School of Electronics and Information, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU), Xi'an, China, in July 2009. He started his graduate studies towards PhD in electrical engineering at NWPU in September 2009. Since October 2011, he has been a visiting PhD student in a joint graduate program between NWPU and Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) sponsored by the Chinese Educational Ministry under the supervision of Prof. Larbi Talbi at UQO, Dr. Qingsheng Zeng at Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) and Prof. Jiadong Xu at NWPU.

Fundamentals of PC-Board Design: DDR2 and DDR3 Memory Signal Integrity
Sponsored by Mentor Graphics, presented by Dr.Syed Bokhari, Lead Signal Integrity and EMC Specialist, Fidus Systems

Course Description
Double Data Rate memories DDRx have become new standards in today's memory applications. This course describes fundamentals of DDR2 and DDR3 from a signal Integrity perspective. The main signal groups and their synchronism requirements are identified. Net topologies, trace impedances and terminations play an important role in waveform integrity. Trace length, vias and cross talk play an important role in timing.

The effect of these parameters is explained. In the course of a design, one would place constraints and carry out PCB routing. However, post-route verification can become a tedious task. The Hyperlynx DDRx Batch mode capability combines a comprehensive signal integrity analysis with timing analysis. Its usage to optimize and validate a DDRx implementation is presented.
